Birthday is a special occasion for a person. My special day fell today (September 22). Generally I don’t like celebrating birthdays. Birthdays come and go every year and I scarcely remember the things done on that day. But this birthday will linger in my memories forever. My roomies made me to cut cakes and they presented me a nice gift. And I received phone calls from friends around 12. Some of my friends share the birthday with me – Rajathi, Vivek, Dhivya, Swarna, Mahendran and Arun. I wished them too. And today, the birthday mails started flooding. My team mates composed nice birthday mails for me. It was totally unexpected and it made me very happy. And there were some disappointments too. Some distant but close ones forgot to wish. Some near ones dint wish me!
You may feel what’s special in it. All these are usual and most of us have these experiences. I did something different for the birthday this year. Yesterday, I went to BalaJothi, a centre for the disabled along with members of DISHA. Fredric, the founder’s son (Rahul) was affected with autism, cerebral palsy and mental retardation at a tender age of 3. The doctors told that he would be bed ridden and would not be able to do anything. He would not be able to speak, walk or think on his own. Nothing could shake Fredric. He took it as a challenge and started training the child on every aspect. And now, Rahul is 7 years old. He walks, understands five languages and operates computers too. That is really a medical miracle. This happened only because of the love which his dad and his grandparents showered on him. We were so moved to hear Fredric speak about his experiences. Kudos to you Fredric. He also provides special education to 30 disabled children. We provided funds to them. Though a small amount, we should understand that little drops of water makes a mighty ocean. From now, I decided to regularly help people in need. Every one of us should do the best possible by us, at least on our birthdays. In this way, we can surely become smile in each and every individual.
